Abstract: | This paper presents a novel adaptive equalization algorithm fortime-varying, frequency-selective MIMO systems that harnesses thefinite alphabet property inherent in digital communication. Thealgorithm leads to a direct, cost-efficient QR-based recursiveupdating procedure for the equalizer coefficients that forcesadaptation to changing channel characteristics. The proposedmethod does not require precise channel estimation and usessignificantly less pilot symbols than other traditionalequalizers, implying a drastic reduction in bandwidth overhead.Simulation results confirm that this approach outperforms the more traditional recursive least squares (RLS) adaptive equalizer for this application and rivals the performance of MMSE equalizers with perfect channel knowledge. | ||
