Abstract: | In this paper, we deal with the antenna selection for space-time coded systems over frequency-selective fading channels. We assume that the channel state information (CSI) is available only at the receiver, therefore, we consider antenna selection at the receiver side. We further assume that the channel is Quasi-static, the sub-channels between different antenna pairs are independent, and antenna selection is based on the signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) observed. By extending the earlier results available for flat fading, we reveal that introducing antenna selection at the receiver side can still achieve the full diversity available if the underlying space-time code (STC) is full-rank (achieving full diversity without antenna selection over the frequency-selective fading channel). We also argue that if the code is not full-rank, antenna selection results in a loss in the diversity of the system while providing some coding gain. Furthermore, we illustrate our findings by several examples. | ||
