Abstract: | When multiple channels are aggregated into a higher bandwidthlogical channel, strategic product codes can be used to protectdata against both channel losses and failures. Previous work in[1] has considered a delay-optimal partitioning schemegiven pre-determined error correction codes (ECCs). In order toachieve an improved distortion performance, image bit streams canbe partitioned together with an appropriate selection of ECCsbased on channel conditions. This paper addresses the problem ofjointly partitioning image data over multiple channels andselecting product coding rates from a finite set to minimize thedecoding distortion under delay constraints. Experimental resultsshow that the image quality degrades very slightly when the delayconstraint decreases over a wide range, with a gain up to 4.5 dBachieved over that using a sequential optimization method. | ||
