Abstract: | We consider chaotic spread spectrum (DS/SS) systems for securecommunication over fading channels, whereby a symbol stream islinearly modulated on a spreading sequence generated by iteratingan initial condition through a suitably chosen chaotic map.For a class of these systems we develop methods for quantifyingthe uncoded probability of error (Pr(e)) of unintended receiversthat do not know the initial condition. We show that the Pr(e) ofunintended receivers exploiting K degrees of diversity decays as1/sqrt(SNR), in contrast to the intended receiver Pr(e) thatdecays as 1/(SNR)^K, demonstrating that these systems can providereliable and private communication over fading channels. | ||
